Isn't this workflow redundant? Automator already has a built in create disk image action, just set it with "Get Selected FInder Items" and you have the same functionality.

Yes it does have the ability to create images. But you have to specify beforehand what size this image will be. Then you have to have the workflow mount the image, copy the files and close it again. This way, it can all be done transparently in the background.
