Disappointing. Apple Needs To Do Better.

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: NO

For me, Pages is simply not ready for prime time. It's overpriced, considering what it doesn't do.

One of the basics: word count. You can't select a paragraph or two and get a word count for them. You can't get a word count to the spot you are in the document. You can only get a word count of the entire document, which isn't helpful if you're editing other information.

Also, you can't get panes, another handicap when editing info.

I wanted to love Pages. I wanted to jettison Word. But, the fact is, Pages doesnt' get the job done.

One last note, 1.0 is awful, speedwise. You must upgrade to 1.0.1, which works decently.

I can respect your gripes about Pages, even though I don't completely agree with you. But to call it "overpriced" is a bit of a stretch. I think that $79.00 for both Keynote and Pages is a real bargain. Individually that comes to $39.50 apiece. I have paid more for shareware apps that haven't had near the features of Pages. In fact, I personally would have paid $79.00 for Keynote alone and would have considered that a bargain. Just think of Pages as "beta freeware" that was included in your purchase of Keynote. You'll sleep better at night if you do.

It's a Cocoa application: Select the text you wish to count, pull down the application menu ("Pages"), go to Services:Statistics.

BTW, what are "panes?"
