Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 6-12 months

This version of Firefox has been somewhat disappointing, from being smart and snappy it's become dull and lagardly. Frequently locking up and displaying a SPOD, especially if it has been in the background for a while.

Hope the next version brings back it's va va Vooom!

Spinning Beach balls Ahoy - dipalma

I haven't noticed this problem, and I'm running it on two of my Macs .... a PBG4 running 10.3.9 and an iMac running Tiger.
Maybe you have a corrupt preference?

Spinning Beach balls Ahoy - pohld

This problem of lock ups and Spinning Beachball of Death (SPOD) may be related to an ongoing difficulty Firefox is having with Flash, at least on Macs.

I've worked around it by installing two extensions: Adblock and Flashblock. As their names suggest, Adblock blocks ads (and can be set to block Flash content), while Flashback solely blocks Flash stuff, which I think is the main thing that helps reduces freezes and SPOD's, though there are so many hyperactive web ads pushing the technology to get attention that I think they sometimes cause problems too.

All I know is that after installing and enabling the two extensions named above, I've been getting much fewer Firefox freezes and SPOD's. I haven't experimented to see if Adblock alone, which can be set to also block Flash, can provide the same improvement without using Flashblock at all. Flashblock also provides a very nice interface with a simple button that appears where Flash content would be displayed, which you can click on and choose to play the Flash and/or allow Flash content from that site in the future (a "white-list").

I rarely see online ads any more. Sweet!

To install Adblock and Flashblock go to Tools -> Extensions, and in the Extensions window that opens, look to the lower-right corner and click on the blue text that says "Get More Extensions"
