My life is over and lacks all meaning. I need DoubleCommand. I need my Enter-button to simulate the control-key. Please please please fix it....
System Info:
No DoubleCommand in Tiger? - jrlederer
instead of killing yourself, please read the following :)if you are having heart palpitations due to the fact that OS X 10.4 ruined 3rd party apps inasmuch as the 'enter' key is concerned, then you will be pleased to know this:
I cannot remember exactly where I read it (I will look and post again later when I find it), but depending on the model of your PB (anything other than the newest revision with the two finger scrolling trackpad from the best of my recollection), then you can go into (from memory so don't complain if the location is off), but I think it is:
/System/Library/Extensions/AppleADBKeyboard.kext/Contents/Info.plist
and change the keymapping manually!!! It worked (but then reverted and I have yet to re-fix it) on my 1.5GHz Aluminum PB FW800 15" and I almost cried I was so happy.
** This is not an original post. I found it on some help site while browsing through the posts. When I find the location I will repost it so you can get firsthand information that may be more accurate. If you mess up your computer by trying this, do not complain to me. I am just trying to help out folks who cannot stand the inability to regain control over the darn little 'enter' key that apple has erroneously provided loyal powerbook customers.
** Last note: as I read in the original post that explained this keymapping, be sure to have a USB external keyboard handy just in case you mess up the file Info.plist in the directory mentioned. Apparantly, the two (internal PB keys and USB keyboard) load via a different kernel extension so they are independent of each other. Also note that if you decide to use 'kextunload' and 'kextload' to reload the driver, make sure you do so in one piped command in the terminal, b/c once you unload the driver....???? get it? or just reboot.
hope this helps...your welcome. :) I know it sure felt great to use the option key instead of the enter key for me so really I must thank the original author, whomever it may be!
