Great Product But...

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: NO

I have been a fan of PGP for years. This is one of the most technically sophisticated utility products on the market yet the user interface is superb. The functions have been very good and impressive on Mac OS X 10.3. The price was a little high not unreasonable considering it is a seldom used product for typical home user. Regrettably PGP is not yet considered applicable in our business environment (DoD) which has other encryption standards using physical devices holding the PKI keys.

Unfortunately the price of $99 is steep for something that, for all intents and purposes, can be replaced by the operating systems AES disk encryption. Grant you, not as strong, but balancing $99 against it...

I am PGP's biggest proponent our office. Love the application, long time user (pre X). I'm just not inclined to personally pay for a $99 "upgrade". It is a really great upgrade but it is priced wrong, even for a full up copy. A $50 utility, yes, $99, no.

Great Product But... - whitewlf

Appears they do support DoD regs... in their pro version, according to this:

http://www.pgp.com/products/desktop/professional/index.html
http://www.pgp.com/products/desktop/index.html#

Token & smart card option

Support for DoD Common Access Card (CAC)

I'm just unsure why I would want to pay for it at all since I use GPG... Though it does say it will encrypt those pesky iChats now. hrm.

*Good Companies Respond* Very encouraged by companies that respond to their installed user base. New e-coupon response to issue is both welcome and shows a regard for both the issue and a desire to support the customer. Thank you very much, will be upgrading after all.
