Great app, BUT missing one much needed feature

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

As a web developer I use Transmit and its ability to edit files directly on the server by integrating with BBEdit. However one issue that has resulted in me losing lots of work is the fact that Transmit does not have any keep-alive function that either pings or sends a null command to the FTP server in order to prevent the connection from being terminated due to being idle. I'm pretty sure every other app has this and it's definitely a necessity when you're knee-deep in coding for 5-10 minutes and when you save the file and close it only to find that Transmit has closed the connection and your changes are gone forever. Please, please add this functionality to an otherwise great app.

Great app, BUT missing one much needed feature - SEAL Systems

If this happens again, just Select-All, Copy it and then re-open the document, Paste and Save. Then you work will not be lost forever.

Great app, BUT missing one much needed feature - tu11ym0n

yes this is how i have been doing it ever since that one big loss. it's an incredible pain in the ass and could be rectified so easily if only Panic would include the keep-alive function that all other FTP apps have.

However the workaround you mention does NOT help when you've already closed the document after saving it (with the assumption that Transmit has saved it and uploaded it). So you have to be very careful not to do the typical "automatic" behavior of saving and automatically closing the document (you saved it, so you don't need it open anymore).

very annoying.

Great app, BUT missing one much needed feature - imagine2003

If you turn on the preference to "use queue for all transfers" the problem you're describing won't happen. When enabled, everytime you save a document using an external editor (in this case BBEdit) the file will be uploaded via the queue, which creates a new connection to the server. I'll look into the bug regarding the connection timeout. (It should be auto-reconnecting if the connection closes.) Hope that helps you out.

Great app, BUT missing one much needed feature - honu

using the Queue does not seem to be the same as a Keep Alive ?
I recently moved to Lunar Pages and they need a keep alive function

so I have tried this and it does not work ? both Yummy and Fetch have keep alive and are working properly on the new lunar server

please seems like others have it why not just ad it ? I dont want to switch but might be forced to do so
