falkaholic_dotmac, iTunes does have a join tracks function. But, that feature only works when the tunes are being ripped from a cd. If the tunes are already ripped to your hard drive in mp3, AAC, or whatever, and you want to combine multiple songs into one file, this program will allow you to do that. iTunes doesn't have a similar function.

iTunes, as stated, can only join tracks from a CD. However, there's a free script on Doug's AppleScripts called 'Track Splicer' that joins tracks and works beautifully, even in 4.8. (There's an event time-out error when run with 4.8, but it doesn't affect functionality.)

It doesn't have the format conversion features that this package purports to have (since it doesn't work on my machine, I can't say more than that) but the price is right and it's trivial to convert between formats within iTunes.

Yes but it's only during the initial import. Once they are in the system you can't use iPhoto to join them (which is a big bummer).

I found the track splicer Apple Script very unstable for joining aac files after iTunes 4.7 and generally not usable. It's fine for joining mp3 files.

Preliminary use of iTunes Join looks promising. It took a couple of minutes to join 6 aac audiobook files (total ~6+ hours). Some progress indicator would help here, since the program warns that "this could take some time". I'm using iTunes 4.9 and QuickTime 6.5.2 on a 12" G4 PowerBook.

Useful alternative to using QuickTime Pro ($30). There is a Join Together and Chapterize AppleScript by Doug Adams at the AppleScripts for iTunes site if you have QT Pro.
