itunes 4.8 doesn't work with panther. why not? apple assumes that everyone immediately upgrades to tiger. there are some people still using panther, apple!!!! tiger has only been out for a few days!!!! i hate how apple completely drops support for the previous os the day after the new one is released. that is one good thing that can be said about microsoft; they support their older os's. look at windows 2000. 4 years old, and msft is still supporting it vigorously, especially for servers and networks.

Grr.... - AsgardTex

I'm running 10.3.9 and iTunes 4.8 is as steady as ever. It updates my iPod normally and other than the new video button, everything else is the same.

Tiger required - Kevin212--2008

Apple has not dropped support for Panther. Previous versions of iTunes still work with Panther and Apple is not requiring this update for continued ITMS access. What Apple has done is release an update that requires Tiger. There's a HUGE difference, pipsqueak.

Tiger required - madprof

according to the notes, tiger is not required, 10.2.8 is. Looks like not ALL the FEATURES of the update are supported though without tiger.

on another note, i'm irritated that apple doesn't seem to be listening to feature requests at all. for years i've wanted the simple ability to go to the next album on a playlist with a (scriptable) command, and wanted the setting for shuffle by song or album to go with the playlist, not universal. also, with the iPod, the ability to sort by artist and album WITHIN a playlist is an option i've long requested. instead there's just a lot of candy. i mean who needs contacts/calendars to the iPod within iTunes? that's what iSync is for.
