As I bought Toast 6, Déjà Vu was part of the package and I felt lucky. So I also paid that time for Déjà Vu. The latest update of Toast (6.0.9) includes Déjà Vu 3.0.3, already the next major version of Déjà Vu.

Now the developer wants me to pay $9.95 for an upgrade to a Tiger compatible version. That's not much money but where is the benefit for me?

If the new major version added more functionality, why then DV 3.0.3 is included in Toast 6.0.9? What if each commercial software or shareware out there bills you only for the compatibility with the new OS version?

I stick with my principles so its bye-bye Déjà Vu.
By the way, where is the deinstaller?

Won't pay for it - Macsure

I can understand your feelings about this - others have complained of 'apparent' bait & switch tactics by this developer. But there's a sound technical reason which requires (so far) THREE different version of this applicaton.

That is:When Apple releases each major point-upgrade (Jaguar-Panther-Tiger) - they've made major changes to the System in order to increase functionality (and to compete with Windows OS). This, in turn, requires major re-writing of Deja Vu.

This developer may be "good" or "bad" on other points - but they MUST create new versions of their backup software because Apple MUST continue developing OS X. There's a lot of cost involved in this process which is never apparent to us, the customers. So I do not believe that this is "dishonest" but a regrettable necessity if the developer is to continue offering this software.

The above is just MO, as a career purchasing executive and long-time Mac user.
