That it's much safer to defragment by full backup (such as Carbon Copy Cloner) erase main drive, and restore. You should have a current backup whenever performing this or other major actions such as system updates/upgrades anyway. For the most part only people working heavily in audio and video or other situations where a large number of files are created and deleted daily need to defragment. Having said that, I did purchase this for quick and dirty defrags of specific files, and it works as advertised and expected.
Slightly expensive for a single-function, limited use application.

Carbon Copy - Pacoloco
Anyone who knew what they were talking about would give a reason, and not make a totally groundless and useless statement. I'm sure my 18 years of computer support experience pales in comparison to the volumes of knowledge you command. You may want to go to one of Apple's Genius Bars and tell them they don't know what they're talking about since they use and suggest it too.Friday, May 06 2005 @ 06:06 AM PDT

I've got you beat on the computer knowledge, that I'm VERY sure of. I started out helping to invent the home computer, computer chip, and later the harddrive. I've been there from the start and I'm still here. I can walk into ANY computer main office and be known by name on sight. CCC has the worst support I've ever seen. SuperDuper is the safest and most stable of all the clone apps. You really don't need a clone app. with OS X. You can just use Disk Utilities. 18 years, I have jeans that old. I'm sure that I have kids your age or older.Tuesday, May 10 2005 @ 06:44 PM PDT

so who knows what...and for how long???Incessant "pissing wars" only hurt all three parties involved, proving nothing more than, "Danger will Robinson — Yellow Snow!"
Regardless of how elegant a solution may be, the obvious question still remains, "Did it solve the problem?" Variants [to this] are merely individualistic and only impose topical ego-threats.
In lieu of the "Ford vs Chevy" kluge-crap; a collegial understanding produces inexorable benefits for all.
