Deleting files problem

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Contributed by: Tea for two Monday, April 25 2005 @ 12:17 PM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

I know that all programs make and save prefs in the prefs folder which is why I explained myself in my first post. I was only defeating your comment about cocothumb not writing *any* files, which it does obviously. but thats not the problem.

the problem is that when running cocothumb it deletes random or seemingly random other pref files in my usr prefs folder. I know this is cocothumb's doing because nothing else is running and nothing else I have is new or causes this. this is definitely a problem with this software. and yes it is still present in this new version. the list would be too long to write in here of all the deleted files it got on my first machine and I'm certainly NOT going to run cocothumb again to see the problems again. I know it wiped out many folders [which were not just sent to the trash; they were completely erased and unrecoverable]. it tossed my adobe folder, some other shareware vendors pref files and mariner write's prefs to be specific. and thats just for starters.

I would still for sure NOT recommend this prog to anyone until this is figured out and the developer stops denying it and fixes it.

Random delete of prefernces files! what are you smoking?
Or maybe your are a friend of someone who creates a application who does the same?

if you're thinking the app delete files then dont use it and stop writing trash.

um nice developer? - Tea for two

gee wiz you are a nice and caring developer. my god. sorry for finding a major flaw in your program but I am not about to let other unsuspecting people instal and use this thing and have it ruin their computer. I am not a novice user and I know a bug when i see it. most developers would try to figure out the problem not yell at someone for having a problem.

being freeware i cant ask for much I guess. but you wont be getting my money if you ever sell any programs because i would hate to have a problem and have to deal with this. you said to email you with more information and i did. yet you dont reply and only come back to versiontracker to yell at me. this is ridiculous.

um nice developer? - Xeater

What do you expect the developer to do? You unfairly slander him in public and then when he doesn't sweet talk you, you whine about it.

Do you have a job? Wouldn't you rather someone came to you about a problem with your work, rather than going above you straight to the CEO? You're leaping outside the proper channels on this. FIRST you talk to the developer, and if the deleting problem is real, ANY developer in their right mind would pull the app ASAP.

You remind me of a student I used to have. He would stay after class to schmooze and then not-so-adroitly slip in little attacks on their classmates. These attacks were always on peers that this student had problems with in some way, usually his lab partners, because they did all the work while he leeched. But there he would be after class, telling be stories about the awful things others in his lab group did.

And I agree with you. Any *real* developer would pull the program. I contacted him many times regardless of what he posts here to keep his public image. The only reply I received was a 1-liner saying that I was wrong and it worked fine.

So I posted the problem here to help protect other people from getting screwed. I'm glad some people haven't had this problem. But I guarantee it happened to me, and looky here, the developer *still* hasn't pulled it.

um nice developer? - unforeseen

Can you tell me _one_ reason why a developer should put code in an application like that which erases _random_ Pref-Files on _certain_ computers (Well... so far, only yours...)???

I`m using this application myself and it did _not_ delete one single Pref-File - why should it, anyway??

Deleting files problem - Stalkingwolf

figure out what problem? there is no problem!
over 10.000 downloads and your are the only one who has this _problem_.
The application does not delete any file. I'm using the application by myself. Or do you think i'm delete my own preferences files?

I have been using this handy app, probably since it first came out. I have never had the problem you are referring to, and I have never had anything but good experiences in contacting the developer on this (which I have done a number of times, talking about the ins and outs of the program, and how to make better color conversions, especially with CMYK files).

Deleting files problem - tlmurray--2008

Something is wrong with your or your system. I've been using this since it was released and turn it loose on huge libraries, and have never had a problem other than that Futura font bug. That said, I think Graphic Converter makes a better Finder thumbnail).
