I ended up throwing SideTrash into my alias trash...the manually set alias trash sent SideTrash to the trash correctly..make sense?

Makes sense, assuming SideTrash is an Applescript using Finder scripting. The problem is if you think you're deleting an alias, you actually delete the original. A trash utility needs to do better than that.
