Thanks, chyson_dotmac, for the Stuffit tip. Here's an additional suggestion.
I was trying to do the update from a completely fresh installation of the original 1.x software followed by running the 1.4.2 updater. No go after several attempts, even after using Stuffit 9.x. Then, before running the installer again, I simply launched the original, not-yet-updated software (it launched fine) and immediately just quit it again. Just by launching it, it created a new folder called "messages" which apparently made a huge difference. Ran the updater again and all was well.
Now I'll actually try using the darned software...

More troubleshooting for OS 10.3.8 updates - Bogner
Hello Kevin JI need the application for Olympus DS-2000 digital voice recorder for Macintosh X
When I bought it, it came with a software disc for Windows.
My dealer had me download the Mac-version - then for Mac OS X 10.1 (March 2002). Subsequently I downloaded an update.
Following a major crash, had to initialize and re-install now Tiger Mac OS v10.4.1 and
Olympus website offers merely a download of UPDATE to DS-2000 v 1.4.2.
I need to install the application to be able to install the update.
Can you help? Thanks in advance!
