I've watched this software as it's been updated in the last few weeks. Now that I have a PSP, I decided to invest in this package since the developer seems to be working on improving the code (and before the price goes up).
So far, I've used it for multimedia only (since I'm still waiting to purchase my first PSP game), and have found it to be really great for transcoding movies for use in the PSP. I have to often change whatever movie I have into a DV file since iPSP doesn't seem to like the MP4 video made by my AlchemyTV software. Once I've made the DV file, though, iPSP churns through it like a charm and makes exceptional transportable video. In fact, I just nabbed a file from my Kids in the Hall DVD and transcoded the VOB using iPSP - the results are stunning. Also, iPSP makes THM files for previewing the video on your PSP. Nice touch. I wish it would create THMs for movies I didn't transcode in iPSP, but there's always AltShiva while these developers work on that feature.
Image transfers are painless, but since the file structure is already on the Memory Stick after it's formatted and the Stick mounts on your desktop like any removable media, this is no surprise. Anything less would have been.
As for music and video transfer, this software still needs work. It might not help that I have over 80 Gigs of AAC files for it to slog through, but it would help if iPSP accessed the file database directly rather than relying on reading the music files themselves every time it wants to refresh the song list. The process is very slow and unreliable for me. iPSP tries to perform exactly the way it should (automatically changing AAC files into MP3s, reading your playlists, and so on...), but often simply fails during the process and stops without warning. I have confidence that this software will continue to improve, but until it does, I'll be transferring music to my PSP manually.
Right now, it's the best video transcoder out there for PSP, in my opinion. For that alone, it's worth the price of admission. I'll give it 3 stars for what it already does correctly and one additional appreciation star for already having improved during it's quest to be the perfect tool for PSP. When the bugs are worked out of the other features, I'll up the rating to five stars.
