Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: YES

To the developer: Did I mention that I LOVE YOU? :)

One idea for an additional feature in a future release is for video files (such as MPEGs.) I frequently download video files and end up with multiple files with similar names. Some of these files are exact duplicates and already handled by dupseek. Some are not actually duplicates but differentlty rendered versions of the video - which I generally keep.

However, often the duplicates are incomplete subsets and that's what I'd like to deal with. If dupseek had an option to compare files in a directory - even when the file size does not match - it would be able to remove files that are identical but incomplete (exact match subsets!)

For example, dupseek could compare a directory containing several files of different sizes and then remove the files that are exact content matches to a more complete version of the file.

File1.mpg 20 Megabytes, complete
File2.mpg 18 Megabytes - identical but incomplete
File3.mpg 6 Megabytes - identical but incomplete
File4.mpg 12 Megabytes - not an identical subset (different encoding perhaps)
File5.mpg 1.1 Megabytes - identical but incomplete

Now wouldn't that be nice? (Of course I'm assuming that the file content is identical to the end of the smaller file even though it is incomplete.)

thank you dupseek and girls_rule! - missdelreal

never even having used the terminal window, i was hesitant to try dupseek, but no other program atm seems effective for OS X atm... but thanks to girls_rule who offered up a starting point, i got dupseek to work quite effortlessly and i am very very pleased with the results!!! thank you!! i greatly appreciate the hours upon days of work you have saved me. it was definitely worth the small effort to venture into terminal land...
