Bonesb, you must check for other problems in your system because, here in my machine, Canvas X it's rock solid with any crash untill now. If you were using version 7, you must get used to the way version 9 or X works first. They are a lot different. Canvas does not work properly if you have any processor consuming task in the background. Even background apps from colaborative projects such as Setiathome or Climateprediction, turn Canvas very slow. Be sure to switch them off first. For the first time Macintosh Users have a complete solution to import, edit and export Esri Shape files without loosing any attribute. Canvas also imports and exports Geotiff files flawlessly. I have not tested dwg or dxf files yet. By now Canvas it's a robust solution for deal with GIS info on a Mac and it's precision it's unbeatable for technical work. Illustrator and Freehand only achieve the needed precision for technical drawing with expensive external add-ons. Unique features such as point to point image warp are outstanding. Canvas as a long history of being app with some bugs but, by now, it's at least as solid has version 9. It's a valuable upgrade for Canvas 9 users, mainly those that were already using the GIS features.

Great app - I don't agree... - bonesb
I stand by my comments. I have a new G5 with 3G of RAM and a clean system when I work on graphics files. I qualified my comments that it was slow when working on a small JPEG file (I compared it to PS, Elements, and a couple of other bitmap editors. No freakin' Wacom support in OS X - ever (Carmine at Deneba admitted that he couldn't figure out how to implement it); look at the bitmap and vector prefs - they're grayed out. You offered a counterpoint to my comment about PDF and DXF, but didn't test them - keep your comments about my experience to yourself - I did check the implementation and qualified my comments. Canvas is beatable for graphics work - I used 3, 3.5, 5, 6, 7, and 8 and I know full well what Canvas is capable of. I work with huge files, too - it's slow, buggy, and crashes; PS, Illustrator, and Freehand - with their plug-ins and Xtras - work just fine on the same files and performing the same operations. My initial comments were qualified that it was MY testing and experience - ACS and Deneba did not and do not document that pressure support isn't offered in OS X, that Canvas does not comply fully with Adobe's PDF 1.4 and 1.5 standards, blah, blah, blah. I really wanted to come back to Canvas, but I won't - you can do what you want - I thought I'd let a few other people know that ACD hasn't fixed a lot of bugs and the OS X version doesn't have feature parity with the Windows version. It's not worth my future consideration. If you have further comment about what I've written, at least take the time to check out what I've griped about before you flame me.Reply to This
