there is a hype about this software i thought i would give it a go myself. i compared the compressed quality of the latest dvd2onex trial version to my old version of fast dvd copy and the difference is very obvious. my trial was on the digitally remastered akira (and yes i own the dvd), because i want to see how dvd2onex performs on flat colours. both fast dvd copy and dvd2onex were asked to compress the whole dvd down to 4.4gb. the setting on dvd2onex was: disk copy, constant ratio, 4472 mb. the result: very bad compression artifacts on all flat colours. to better describe it it looks like a very badly compressed jpeg picture. i was really amazed since i have heard good things about appl. i wasn't expecting much from fast dvd copy after seeing the result from dvd2onex on akira, but the result from fast dvd copy (i must emphasize that it is not the latest version) was more that slightly better. there is still compression artifacts like that of dvd2onex but they only occur in split seconds. pausing the movie explains how fast dvd copy does it - the jpeg type artifacts are replaced by fine dithers. if dvd2onex can use this method of compression it will be the best dvd compressor for mac users like wise weasel said, because it is half the price of the latest fast dvd copy and with far beter features. just these two points by themselves deserves a five star!
