Of course most Macs don't have a serial port, but yet most GPS' only come with a serial port (and even if they also have an USB port you cannot use it because Garmin doesn't make an USB driver).
That's what an USB-serial adapter is for. You plug it into an USB port and plug the serial cable from your GPS into the adapter. The USB-serial adapters driver makes sure the OS thinks it has a serial port.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there are stupid reviews. rocteur_dotmac if you don't understand it you should ask before judging!
BTW, the GPSMAP276C now works like a charm. :-)
The USB-serial adapter adds the serial port... - hikerak
The GPSMAP doesn't to my knowledge come with a serial port, what do I do then?? I have the adapter but no serial port to plug into the GPSMAP ???Am I missing something????
I really don't care about the mapping as I have an old windows machine for that purpose, but it is not on the web. I would rather not go there, but I would like to transfer the waypoints for geocaching with my mac. It happens to be tooo slow 350mhrtz for Virtual PC. What I would like is USB TO GARMIN for waypoints.... is there another cable I need??
