I've used ALL the font management apps and found all of them lacking. I had been a FontAgent user a long time ago (back when it was called FontBox and then the first iteration of it under the FontAgent moniker. But I switched to Suitcase because it was better (AT THAT TIME).
Since then Insider Software has released FontAgent Pro 3.0 which is now a fully mature font management app. I'd been frustrated with the tendency of Suitcase to frequently corrupt my fonts and improperly "fix" them. So, I was using a combo of Suitcase and Morrison SoftDesign's FontDoctor. That was an improvement but still I was continually facing degradation of font integrity.
FontAgentPro has built-in font repair and MUCH better system-wide auto-activation than Suitcase. It does take a LOOOONG time to load but since it doesn't have to be actively open to auto-activate fonts (unlike Suitcase which ALWAYS has to be running) that's not a big issue. I especially like the Photoshop auto-activation feature. Suitcase just doesn't offer that.
I do have to admit I like the user interface of Suitcase better. It is simpler and just looks better but that isn't a deal-breaker.
Since using FontAgent Pro I've haven't had any new fonts go buggy on me.
All-in-all font management is still a BIG hassle in OS X but at least with FontAgent Pro it is bearable.
Now, if FontAgent only offered a way to print font sample books of UNOPENED fonts that worked (can anybody do this? Only Lemke's FontBook comes close) and a way to classify font by their types (display, script, etc.) then I'd be an absolutely satisfied customer.
