OmniOutliner, at $40, isn't cheap. But it's well worth the investment - it's a great companion to a word processor, and I use it for all sorts of lists. I've never found another tool like it, so it was a no-brainer to pony up.

Not cheap, but worth the price - supercrisp1

They do offer a significant educational discount. And is a very good piece of software for outlining, better than any other I can find, and I keep my eyes open for new alternatives because outlining is so important to me. I use OmniOutliner not only to plan my scholarly writing but also to create syllabuses, lesson plans, and handouts.
