I agree completely. The GUI is so horrible and useless that I only use Emacs and run Matlab from the terminal. It would be VERY nice if they could at least code the GUI in Qt, so that we could have a proper interface on Mac, Linux, and FreeBSD. I guess Cocoa would be better, but it seems almost silly just to hope for something like that...
