First let me say, "I Love MacTheRipper". I've been using for a very long time and never have had any problems until this latest release. For some reason, with every DVD I've tried to copy, once it finishes, it will say "Bad Sectors" This disc has bad sectors and that I may want to try playing it before recording it to a blank disc. It has done this with 4 movies right in a row. This is the first time I've tried this latest version. I just can't figure out the problem. I'm using a PowerBook G4 1.67 GHZ with the new 8x DVD (superdrive). Any advice? The movies I tried copying were : The Haunting, Cold Mountain, The Mummy, Green Mile. After that I gave up.

Bad Sectors Error with Latest Release - Wise_Weasel

Try contacting us at mtr@ripdifferent.com so we can get some more info from you. There seem to be problems with Virex causing issues with MTR as you describe. Also, do older versions of MTR also give you the same problem? Are these DVDs from different regions than the one your drive is set to? Have you tried repairing the permissions on your MacOS X drive using Disk Utility?

HI and Thank you for responding Wise_Weasel. This is a new PowerBook, only a week old. I did run disk utility. I use Region 1 DVD's. All the Dvd's were for Region 1. I finally figured out the problem just the other day which literally drove me crazy until I figured out what was causing these errors. The PowerBook's DVD region was not set. I don't know why it was shipped to me this way, but it was. I hadn't tried playing a DVD on this new one before trying to copying it. I just put in the movie and opened MacTheRipper to copy. It seems I should have tried playing a Region 1 DVD using Apple's DVD Player first to set the Region on the SuperDrive. I think this is what caused my problem because now it works perfect just like all the other previous versions. I've copied 5 movies and all of them came out perfect. It may be a good idea for all new PowerBook owners to make sure to play a DVD and make sure the Region is set before using MacTheRipper. Oh, one last thing. If you ever decide to take PayPal donations for your work, I'd be the first to donate- to keep the work going. You've created the best ripper on the planet. Thank YOU!!!!!! :-)

Yikes! Lots of failures. I, too, have had problems with MTR. Search on "DVDBackup" and try that app. DVDBackup has always worked great for me (but I haven't tried those titles you mention).
