Their driver especially the kernel extions is awful. But luckily you no longer need it with >10.3.4. So you can just install the firmwareloader with Pacifist into /Library and the rest ist done by Apple. So finally Sonica is usable.
Before there was a prefpane with awfull audio "optimation" and 3D audio (yuck!). And the preference settings never sticked.

10.4.1 compatibility - Stormchild
It does? Mine doesn't. Are you sure you have the Sonica USB (blue one)? Mine doesn't show up in the Sound preferences.Tuesday, May 24 2005 @ 06:41 PM PDT

10.4.1 compatibility - Peter Lalor
I am positive: the Sonica works under 10.4.1.I tested using an external drive before moving my machine to Tiger. I found when switching between the internal drive running Panther and to Tiger 10.0 (where it did not work) and back to Panther, the Sonica would not even work (failing to appear in Sound) under Panther anymore unless the Sonica was unplugged from USB for a few minutes. It seems to store something for a few minutes that make or break it's operation.
I have the folder M-Audio Firmware Loader in /Library/StartupItems/. I don't think I have anything else installed.

I now have the same phenomen under Tiger, it even stopped working in Panther. Now after a few days it again appears in my sound prefs. I now use their OS X 10.4.1 driver: http://www.m-audio.de/files/Sonica_OSX_1.0.4.dmg
But a few days ago it did NOT work with these new drivers. I already used a different USB cable. I thought my Sonica is broken. But as you have the same problem I think the Sonica device is just a little strange.
For now it works, but next time I buy something else from a different company...

Beginning with 10.4.1, my Sonica works with Tiger using this sort of installation.Reply to This
