MacTheRipper seems to simply be unable to rip Region 1 to a Region 2 dvd player! I use a 15" TiBook 1 GHz and all I get when I put in the disc in the internal drive is "READ ERROR! Can't open VMG info" and "I/O ERROR! Can't Read DVD Title Set Info". A friend of mine with a new 15" AlBook had the same problem: region 1 simply doesn't rip!
(I was about to ask this question on the MacThe Ripper forum (there is no faq and only one hit on vmg in their forum) but then I had to register. I have to many weird registration around the net already...)

I'd love to hear if you found a solution!I'd bought some DVDs via Amazon... and it turns out that they're this VMG format. I've downloaded ffmpegX, but there also seems to be something that disables the copying.

PowerBook DVD drives are unable to rip DVDs from other regions than the one they're set to. Certain models have some RPC1 (region-free) firmware available. For others, you must use a different DVD drive (such as an external FireWire one, or one on a different computer) to rip DVDs from other regions.Reply to This
