Having evaluated CADtools with the demo, I'm pretty impressed by its functionality. However it is pretty pricey, and I thought I'd just check with them first what their upgrade policy is when the next version of Illustrator comes out.
I spoke to a very helpful and friendly guy at the company, and he told me that if the next version of Illustrator comes out within 90 days of your purchase of CADtools, you'll get a free (or maybe reduced cost) upgrade, but otherwise you're out of luck, and you'll have to pay the full upgrade cost.
I find that a hard risk to bear, so personally, although I'm keen on the product, I'm going to at the very least wait out the next version of Illustrator - if I haven't in the meantime stumped up for a product (maybe like MacDraft) that will not be rendered redundant by a new version of the host program.
I know that these guys need to make a worthwhile return out of CADtools, and I certainly don't begrudge that to them, but from my position as a customer I find the risk of a big upgrade fee rather offputting.
