What about iMovie 5 HD - Donal Briard

It's not the same thing. Both iMovie HD and Final Cut Express HD import HD by transcoding it to a low bitrate video file using a HIGHLY lossy codec called the Apple intermediary codec. This is done to insure simplicity and speed for low end user. The resulting image quality is usually horrific. Final Cut Pro 5 will be the first OS X application to NATIVELY support Long GOP-MPEG2 as used by the HDV format. Until then, an application such as thi sis essential to capture, demux your footage, convert to miniDV, edit, then reconnect to your full quality clip within FCP HD.

Of all th eoptions available (LumiereHD etc), this, I think, is the only one with a real time preview.
