I have been trying to update my copy of Virex 6.1 for Feb.
It won't updatge because a new version of Virex has been made available.
One needs to update tpo version 6.2 I've tied by going to McAfee's site but
Can't find any update or even pourchase site for the new version. That web site is a Maze. It's difficult to find anything.
I sent an inquiry to the developer, no response. My suggestlon is find another Virus
Protection Application and forget McAfee.
Intego (www.intego.com) and Symantec (www.symantec.com) are probably the best. Macword give the former 4 mice and the latter 3 mice (the same as for McAfee)

Don't know if you've had any luck yet with updating or with contacting McAfee, but I recently ran the latest definition for February (for Virex 6.1, Mac OS 9.2.2), and it seems to have updated without any problem. However, the day when this no longer works, I too plan on switching to a different Virus program, most likely to Intego.
If you're still in the game with Virex, here's some information that *might* be useful to you.

"Virex 6.1 is no longer available for sale or for download from McAfee Security Consumer Division. McAfee will continue to support consumers who are running Virex 6.x, and will soon provide an update to Virex 6.1 for existing customers only. Virex 6.2 update will introduce a new scanning engine, 4240, and the update will provide improved detection and cleaning capabilies. Virex 6.2 is expected to release prior to August, 2003 and will be available to all currently-supported Virex 6.x customers.
McAfee will continue to sell Virex 7 to corporate customers and will offer Virex 6.2 to corporate customers when it is available later in 2003. Apple will continue to offer Virex 7 for consumers via Apple's .mac subscription service. McAfee's Virex 7 provides continued support for Mac OS X."
