I've been waiting for this patch before I update....how can I go from 4.0 directly to 5.0.1 without the problems of the 5.0 update?......I have 15,000 photos in 4!

This release purports to have repaired the problems with updating, so I'd install iLife '05 and run software update before running iPhoto '05. Of course, you ought to back up your library if possible, but this release ought to fix it.

If you want to be doubly sure, repair the library in 4 before upgrading to '05 (which also creates a new copy leaving you with a perfect backup), by holding down shift, option, and command when opening iLife '04.
