Apparently, some applications (eg, QuickTime) overwrite the creation date EXIF field. If Exifrenamer is using this field to set the date, then it will be the date the file was created rather than the date the picture was taken. There is an EXIF field called Capture Date which QuickTime (at least) does not overwrite, and Exifrenamer could use this.
