There seems to be one small problem with using a web proxy server like this... since it's hitting your router or DNS server directly, unless the machine you're looking to for DNS is Rendezvous-enabled, Rendezvous no longer works for web connections.
For example, I have a machine on my network called FileServer. Its Rendezvous name is fileserver.local, and until I installed Dansguardian, I could use fileserver.local as its domain name in Safari. Now I need to use its' IP.
Does anyone know a workaround for this?
DansGuardian
Web content filter using Squid proxies
Version: 1.0
Bonjour problem - john_m_kershaw
Open System Preferences > Network > ProxiesThere's a text box beneath all the services checkboxes where you can exclude certain domains. Add fileserver.local and Safari will bypass DansGuardian.
Alternatively you can set fileserver.local as a exception in
/opt/dansguardian/etc/lists/exceptionurllist
and it'll always be allowed. Add apple.com here too to allow System Updates etc
