I have been waiting for a long time to be able to replace Snapz pro X. At last, I have found an excellent substitute YellowMug Software's -- SnapNDrag -- and it's free! (No, it won't copy movies; but it will even make *timed* screen shots so that one can get the cursor off screen when the image is recorded.)
Why is Snapz Pro X a pain in the neck? I keep a consistently "clean," updated backup of my main hard drive and every couple of months reformat that drive, then restore all my apps along with any new additions. Every single time you do this, when you try to open your fully licensed copy of Snapz Pro X, you are told your serial number has expired and you cannot use the application until you have applied to Ambrosia via the internet for a new one.
Any of you who *think* you have backed up your applications, if you have Sanpz Pro X, think again! On restoration of your hard drive, unless you can get onto the internet, which can be a major problem with a powerbook and in many other circumstances, you are SOL! (I have over 100 apps on my drive; can you *imagine* what it would be like if you not only had to re-enter the serial number for each app -- bad enough! -- but *also* had to apply to the creator's website for a new one???)
Once in a long while, when, e.g., I have to copy a movie, it might be worth renewing my serial number. In the meantime, I'm extremely pleased with freeware SnapNDrag . . . as well as other shareware YellowMug products.
