No way this app. is 'Alpha' nor does it 'arbitrarily break up recording'. In fact it somewhat reminds me of an ingenious application called 'Coaster' which also used 'threshold' to automatically 'trigger' the starting/ ending of a recording that i, being a fiddle-player, used under OS9 to do 'hands-free' recording.
However this app. is more sophisticated and user-friendly. To my knowledge there hasn't been – amongst the rec. apps that already exist – a program like it under OSX untill recently. Anyway, it's a good thing that this void is being filled. This is an app. that has – like it says in the description – the ability to automatically split a recording from say a vinyl record or a tape.
It is fully Cocoa-written and Core Audio compatible and even though i use ProTools for recording - a lot of the time i prefer to plug the mikes into my Digi001 hardware (which incidentally – isn't recognized by an app. like Wiretap Pro) and let Audio Companion do the job instead. Not only because its CPU usage is so much lower but also because you can record your playing without having to touch the keyboard or the mouse.
Once you've got the parameters set correctly, that is.
Audio Companion
Sound recorder w/auto split & sound encoding.

Agree! And the service is great. Had problems unlocking the app, but thanks took interest in fixing it, and after a few mails and about 1 hr it worked well! Speaking of service: I mailed the Wire Tap people a few queries, but after 6 weeks I haven´t received any answer yet! Arrogant #€#€%%€#2!Steinarh
