At first I thought the problem was with my machine, since I had a power supply die recently. I figured some files got corrupted and was causing the permission errors.
However I noticed the same thing is happening on my iBook, and judging from other posts here, all made on the same day, something has changed with the Gnutella network that's causing a problem with giftd. Disable Gnutella like others have suggested and all is well.

Universal Problem with Gnutella - Jack B
Mmm, I managed to partially deal with the problem using the method outlined. I have a G4.When the window appeared saying " do you want poisoned to attempt to fix this" I went to poisoned>pref>plugins and unchecked the Gnutella box and closed the window.I then did a search for something that I know I used to get hundreds of available files for. A mere 50 came up showing what it is like not to have the Gnutella element working. So I went to giFT and tried to get the Poisoned update but I can't. All I can download is the Windows/Unix update. What a pain in the arse. Poisoned on a Mac has been great for a few months but now is quite limited.
