DRM Problems - Use With Caution

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Contributed by: SteveRB511 Thursday, December 23 2004 @ 12:13 AM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

I downloaded and installed Reader 7.0 and lost the ability to open my DRM-protected files. Reader asked if I wanted to re-activate, gave me the choice to re-activate without Passport or Adobe ID (the option to re-activate using these was grayed out). Reader then gave me the error: "failed to load XML.XML .... contact customer support." I deleted all adobe related files (preferences, etc.), reinstalled and tried again with the same result. Unfortunately, Adobe's idea of customer support in this area is a forum where questions and problems may or may not be addressed.

The lack of reliability in the implementation of Adobe's DRM and lack of support for assocuiated problems is one of the reasons I'm very much opposed to it and will not buy any DRM products in the future.
