Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: YES

As a native port of OpenOffice.org, almost all of the excellent functionality in that application applies, particularly the availability of (currently) 40 languages, the clear style system and the ability to accurately read (and write) a large number of common file formats (including MS Office and now basic read-only support for Wordperfect documents).

While not yet completely native, the current NeoOffice supports Apple-style menus, and is otherwise fairly integrated with Mac OS X. Stability has also improved greatly over the last few months and is now on par with some of its commercial competitors.

The only serious downside is the large amount of RAM it requires, a machine with at least 512 MB is recommended (this is apparently due to the use of Apple's Java Virtual Machine and the underlying OpenOffice.org code).

All of the programming and testing of NeoOffice is done by volunteers, and the community is very accessible and responsive. A userfriendly patch notification system is also implemented.

Great software and even better value for money.
