I just installed MAMP which has a nice GUI interface to the supplied tools. However, MAMP has Apache configured to run using port 8888 and I'd rather run it using the "normal" port 80 way. The supplied doco says you can do that by using the GUI to change the port and then starting and stopping the underlying apps from Terminal. I'm wondering why I can't simply start MAMP from terminal using the following command "sudo open MAMP.app -a", set the port to 80, and then restart the Apache service directly from the GUI as it will have root authority? Won't this run MAMP as root and allow the application to open port 80? Just a thought…but if it works I can set up a clickable icon that does this and use the nice GUI interface supplied by MAMP.
