I've had a lot of problems like the ones unSane describes. I've reverted to creating a disk image of the CD and mounting it internally with Toast. This tricks out Final Draft into thinking you have a CD in the drive. I can then bypass the authorization altogether without keeping a copy of the CD with me all the time. It's too much of a pain to authorize.
