This is a very impressive FTP client -- with a good balance of "under the hood" capabilities and concern for user interface and features. It doesn't try to be the Swiss Army Knife of software but instead focuses on doing a few things elegantly and well, (even as there is room for more well-implemented features, of course).
Speaking of which, as I'm now favorably disposed to buying this product, I notice that no upgrade has taken place in nearly one year now. Has Panic lost interest in this product or does it have plans for where to take it in the future? Has development ceased? As Tiger fast approaches (in the coming months), I want to be sure the developers of Transmit are committed to keeping this product current and compatible, etc. (By the way, guys, thanks for a very engaging essay on the history of your other -- now discontinued product -- Audion.)

It is my understanding that they're working on Transmit 3. I don't know when it is due.Friday, December 24 2004 @ 10:17 PM PST

According to Steven F's blog, a new version of Transmit is currently being beta tested. Horray! :-)Monday, January 03 2005 @ 03:54 AM PST

Considering that Transmit is one of their two major applications, I doubt that they have suddenly stopped development on it. Unison and Stattoo have probably taken up much of their time during 2004, and hence why there haven't been any Transmit updates this year. But I suspect that they are probably working away on an update for Transmit. There hasn't been any major updates from Panic in a few months (I think), so that might be a hint that they have been busy with some major improvements. Also, I doubt that Transmit is going to be put out to pasture anytime soon, considering how Transmit is one of the best FTP clients I've ever seen, on the Mac or anywhere else. Since Apple doesn't have a Transmit/FTP-killer out there right now, Panic should probably be pretty safe for now, whereas Audion just could not effectively compete against iTunes.Reply to This
