They may not be charging a fee for this software but it is not free - not unless they did it on their own time as a hobby. Otherwise it is your tax dollars at work - probably at premium rates. Frankly it would not surprise me if this little goodie, when you add in administrative, overhead, and support costs goes into the 4, 5 or possible 6 figure range. This is who we are talking about: "The NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), at Columbia University in New York City, is a division of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center Earth Sciences Directorate and a unit of the Columbia University Earth Institute." These people do not come cheap!
These are probably your tax dollars at work and I hope you feel that a sunclock for the planet Mars is worthy of the expenditure.
And for those of you that do, and also believe that Steve Jobs is a miracle worker I suggest you do the following:
Email Steve and suggest that he have Edgar Rice Burroughs arise from his grave, contact John Carter of Mars and establish an Apple Dealership on Barsoom(Mars) perhaps in Gathol. That way there will be a distribution channel for Mac's on Mars in a major city that may create a demand and use for this product.
Mars24
Sunclock for the planet Mars.

I don't know who is dumber; the guy complaining about NASA's search for information about the cosmos (you're absolutely right: we should just stick our head back in the sand and pretend there's no such thing as other planets) or the libbie whackjob who just HAS to interject his personal politics about the war in Iraq into everything.Anyone else notice that libs will seek any excuse, even a forum that's supposed to be about whether or not SOFTWARE WORKS PROPERLY FOR YOU, to make absolutely sure that everyone else within earshot knows they hate the war in Iraq?
Hey sweetheart, here's a question for you: if you're actually stupid enough to think the war was about oil, why is it that after American troops have had control of the sixth largest oil reserves in the world, we're still paying $3.00 at the pump? Gee, maybe the war was about something else AFTER all, huh? (Oh, and if you're so concerned about how other countries view America, you could consider moving to one of those other countries. You won't have as many rights and privileges, but you can say that you took the moral high ground.)
Maybe in the future you can confine your comments to the actual topics this website is designed for and people like me won't have to point out your stupidity. That's just a suggestion. Have a nice day.

PS: I happen to really like this application and I recommend it for download.

Nothin' like a good debate to warm the blood. Of course it's ridiculous to suggest that the Iraq war is all about Oil, just as it's ridiculous to suggest that it's about fighting terrorism. Only Cheney knows the full story. What really irks me is the complaint about gas costing three bucks a gallon - it's currently about four times that in the UK, mainly due to the huge government tax rake-off (I know our gallons are bigger than yours, but not THAT much bigger!). The point about freedom was well made, though - we're much less free to buy guns and hardcore in Britain than you chaps.Back on topic... Mars 24 Clock rocks! When it's running I'm reminded that I'm a citizen of the Universe, as well as a citizen of my house.

Well, if that's my tax dollars at work, I say, fine - some of the money our government steals from us should go to projects like this, rather than to a stupid war I don't support that will ultimately make the rest of the world hate our burger flippin', Thomas Kinkade-buyin', SUV-drivin', channel-surfin', Disney-fied, fat, entertain-o-maniac asses even more than they already do. Bush is asking for another $82 billion for his little oil war, throwing our dear dollar even further down a rathole against the Euro and you are worried about $100k?Reply to This
