while a visual interesting and useful program, I'd have to agree that it is a bit overpriced. $40, fine. But then factor in this: any item that you purchase from their "Similar" area will give Delicious Monstor a percentage of your purchase because it is coded with their Amazon referer tag. So they're constantly making money off of you, possibly much more than the $40. A bit backhanded and sneaky if you ask me. I don't necessarily mind them making the extra cash, but not when I already forked over a lot for it.

don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining that they are doing that. But they should be open about it. $40 is a lot for some people, and it isn't far to just brush it off that if they can buy a DVD then they can buy this. I think a far greater amount of money can be made for this application can be made from the affiliate program. Therefore, I think the price they are charging for the app is ridiculous. Imagine if this app was freeware, or even $15 bucks like the previous version. The market saturation would be alot greater, and in turn they would have more users. More users equals more people buying things through the referral links, and a possibility that they make a lot more cash back that way. I have affiliate programs on a couple of my sites, and they have worked out quite well. I think the user base would fall over this app if that was the case. At the very least they should be upfront about making money constantly off of you.Thursday, November 11 2004 @ 08:36 PM PST
Other double-dippers... - William Jon Shipley
Myself, I'm pretty steamed that after paying $250 for an iPod, I found out Apple makes money every time I buy a song! That's double-dipping if you ask me. Nowhere in iTunes does it SAY that Apple will make money if you buy a song. They should let me make the profits from the songs, since I bought the iPod.Friday, November 12 2004 @ 08:03 AM PST

You do realize, of course, that it doesn't cost you any more to buy through Delicious Library than it does to buy it off of plain old Amazon? I don't think they're being disingenuous about it either. It's not like that is hidden from the user in any way (unless you don't bother to ever look at urls). If you were making this program, and were providing links to similar products for people, it'd be kinda silly not to direct them through Amazon's referral program, right? That'd just be throwing away the funds that would help you make the program better, and they are clearly dedicated to making it better.Reply to This
