Exporting Schedule Data

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

In the recent comment from Niagara Software, it is stated that schedules can be exported in the free version in an XML format. I think they'll need to be more specific as to how that is accomplished since the only objects that are readily available for export are the team, location, and field objects without any schedule data that I can locate. The manual does not seem to make it obvious either. While there is room for error on my part, I have extensive experience with software (since 1976) and can *usually* find any feature in an application.

I downloaded the software to try it for our soccer league. It currently runs on a Windows-only package and I wanted to expand the options. This package seems to have some great potential. I expect to be able to convince my league to pay for licensing of this software for the Mac, Windows, and LINUX versions. However, there are some deficiencies that should be addressed like schedule export. Perhaps it is just a question of making the manual better so that the option of found more easily especially if "The intention is not to present a 'Free' version and then not provide any usable type of functionality as a vehicle to more software downloads, but to continue to aid in the noble cause of organizing and managing youth sports." Most of the volunteers I know will not be able to figure out where that feature is if I have not been able to.

Exporting Schedule Data - Niagara_Software_751

Hi jscotta44_1,

Thanks for your comment. Especially the one about it shows great potential. We like to think that we really put our heart into our work so any type of positive feedback we get is really quite appreciated.

With regards to your post about exporting data with the free version. Please continue to evaluate the software. You will see that in addition to teams, locations, and field objects (locations and fields refer to the same thing) you can also export and import in some cases the following in the free lite verison.
  • Player rosters
  • Individual players
  • Officials
  • Entire projects
  • Game scores
  • Contacts (vCard format)
The idea behind the game scores was to facilitate the organizers of the league to get electronic updates to game results. (easiest way would be by email). Then the organizers could 'batch' import the scores, rather than entering the data by hand. This would reduce the amount of human error.

No question, obviously you are not going to get the full publishing features in the lite version. Some of those features include customizable CSV output, support for integration of HTML schedule tables into templates etc. You can view an example here.

The lite version does come with some powerful scheduling tools, such as even home & away games, auto conflict resolution, balancing of early late, prioritized location useage as well as handy analytical tools.

Thank you for your comments,
Niagara Software
