I felt so strongly about this product, that I had to write a review. This product was SO promising and falls far short of being as great as it could be. The interface is pretty BUT …
We have almost 800 DVD, 1000s of books and 100s of video games. We used the software to scan in a couple of the DVDs. Out of 25, it found about 15, so any older DVDs and you do not get the automatic entry. Out of 25 video games for the x-box and it found 7, for Playstation 2 it found 5 out of 25, and the GameCube it found 9 out of 25. Out of the books we have it found 3 out of 25, granted this is from a range of book. Not all the newest or latest novels, but some classic books also. I was so disappointed at this point I didn’t even try music. So you have to do a lot of hand entering, scanning of covers, etc to complete your library. A lot of work for you to do for the price of the software.
In conclusion, if you buy everything you own from Amazon.com, this product maybe for you (unless Amazon stopped selling your product). For cataloging books, music and even DVDs on a Mac, Check out READERWARE, a higher price but well worth it. On the PC side for DVDs, nothing on any OS has ever beaten DVDProfiler. Library could be the Mac equal of DVDProfiler … heck it could even beat it, If it could search things other then Amazon.com.

Your results are puzzling. I have over 1600 DVDs, and it's found the vast, vast majority of them. Even better now that they added UK DVD support. As far as books go, well, that's a problem with UPC numbers on books. UPC numbers on books are typically re-assigned after a while, especially on mass-market paperbacks. _ANY_ cataloging program is going to have these issues, so it's probably unfair to attribute it to DL.Thursday, November 11 2004 @ 07:44 PM PST
