I admire people who have a solid knowledge of UNIX commands and who have the ability and confidence to use the terminal to control their Macs. There are many (maybe millions) of us users out here who for various reasons do not have those skills or who do not feel comfortable learning them. Some users simply do not have the time or resources available to learn these skills. We use our computers for fun, communication and simple day to day productivity. We just want things to work right for us.
We rely on skilled programmers to make our computing experience as simple and easy as possible. We are happy and content knowing that we can count on them to give us this piece of mind, and we appreciate their efforts. We are happy to pay for the service they provide us, especially when the price is as reasonable as the cost of SuperDuper!.
If you were to put your skills to good use you could also be one of those who we admire, trust and support with our shareware payments. I am an aging and disabled Mac user from way back in 1984 and I am glad that I can count on all those younger and sharper minded folks that take the worry and complexity of this new world off my mind.
I remember when new cars all had manual roll down windows. They were easy to use and easy for me to repair. I accept that all cars now have the ease and convenience of power windows, although I could still use the old style hand crank. I also accept the fact that there is someone out there that can fix my power window when it doesn't work right. I would not care to learn to do it myself.
Instead of criticizing people like me you might consider helping us. That is the attitude that drives the Mac community.

no offence taken - barberfloyd
I was not offended by your post. I replied to it in order to let you see what modern computer life is like down here at the bottom with old time users like me. Just ordinary people with simple needs.I can understand your need for details about what all these system mods and utilities do. I also research them as well as I can before I commit to them. I seldom understand exactly how a piece of software accomplishes what it does so I feel lucky when I find one I like and I feel I can trust.
You are right about these forums and boards - they can be great places for information and understanding. Keep adding your input whenever and wherever you see fit. Every opinion helps every reader and poster find the help and products they need.
Best regards..............

To Frank Taylor - bossa nova
Frank,Thanks for a wonderful reply with lots of insight on why you like to use the program.
Before I comment further I thought I would like to clarify my comments because it appears I offended you. That was not my intention.
I am the kind of person who needs to get a lot of information about something before I fully commit to making it part of my 'regimen'. I like you are no expert in the terminal. I only started working with it about a year ago. I just find all the software that is flying around and all the terminal commands daunting to say the least.
Perhaps it would have been better if I had directed the post to Terminal Experts and Power Users who manage labs or large groups of computers.
In any event there have been lots of responses to the post and I thank you all for you insights. This is the greatest board!
Thanks!
