Hi all... NetScrape does communicate with a server at the beginning of a session to verify that the registration code is valid. The registration code is the data sent, and an integer is the data received. This has allowed me to shut off pirated codes on the rare occasion they turn up.
Still working on the application hang issues, sorry I'm such a rookie developer!

Excellent point - I had this same concern with other shareware I have purchased in the past. I did add a "hit by a bus" default that, in the case that my server is no longer up and responding, the application assumes it is properly registered in the absence of contrary info. I should make this clearer on my website (or I may just remove the check, I get a lot of concerns about it :-)Monday, May 09 2005 @ 05:39 PM PDT

I was interested in trying out this program until I found out that it needs to validate registration code for each session. I've paid shareware fees and then seen developer shut down business too many times to be willing to rely on this method of verification. I bought a license for Digest Viewer which I use quite a bit and if it had used this method it would have been disabled for the past 2 or 3 years. (Font Gander is another example.)Reply to This
