This latest beta(b2) has treated me better than the last so
I have experienced less crashes which has helped
me continue to test drive this beautiful but 'wild n' willful' browser.
My biggest problem at the moment apart from the unexpected
crashes... Is why does OmniWeb wants to connect to srv19.b-one.net
on TCP port 80 (http) on every startup - and I have 'check for
updates' turned off. If denied, Omni will not work - Safari
doesn't phone home on every start up - what's going on?
next... Omni does not seem to remember site passwords after
a session has ended - I have cookies enabled after quiting and
have changed the approprate site prefs but the keychain approach
does not seem to be working. When I go to login the login info is
put into the sites 'login box' but not entered, I would like it to be
seem-less as it is in safari - go to a site, password remembered.
I really miss the bottom window info panel on clickable links in safari,
You could tell if a link was a URL or a media file etc... Omni's 'page info'
pop up box is excellent but would like a quickn' easy way to see what
a link points at - downloads completion figures showed up here too,
giving you more info on how a site or media file was loading.
Would like to also see some more 'download to...' CM options.
(Photos get downloaded to folder A, zip files to folder B etc...) would be
really useful addiction for those of us who like more contextual control
of files.
Finally I would like to see a downloads window revamp, it is a little
incongruously designed and does not seem to fit on screen anywhere.
Couldn't a drop down window from the bottom of the browser be a better
option - ( Like PathFinder uses for terminal controls) or cut back on the blank
space in the details panel - even with icon in the toolbar set to small and
no text it's still a big window floating about without a home.
Still much to like and this latest beta is almost there - convincing me
that Omni's for me - but when you do return to Safari you see how sleek and
simple life can really be.

Cheers for the 'status bar' and other omni-user

I suspect that you may have selected the "include system information" option in the Preferences>Update section - if you have try deselecting that. However, why that should still be active if you have deselected the "Check for updates:" option, I don't know. If that does solve the problem, you might want to inform OmniGroup that this should be considered a bug.

You need to show the status bar (View>Show Status Bar or press command-\) which will indicate where links are pointing to, how the modifier keys will effect where that link is opened, and it also shows if the site has cookies, RSS feeds, search engines, etc.
You have a wealth of control for downloads via the contextual menu when combined with Site Specific preferences (not quite the same as you would like, but for e.g. the NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day website, all my downloads from there are to my Images folder). When at a website where you would like to download to a specific location, open the site specific preferences (either via the button in the toolbar, or via the OmniWeb>Show Site Specific preferences menu option) and go to the Other tab. There you can select the download destination for any files from the top domain for that site.
To see info on what is being downloaded for a site or sites, simply click the network activity dial to get the Network Activity window (or select it in the Window menu, or press command-shift-A).
