This is TiVo-like in the way that I am Schwarzengger-like. We both are male. We both walk more or less upright. But anyone could see I'm a poor comparison for Ahh-nold. This is a digital video recorder, but calling EyeTV "TiVo-like" does a great disservice to TiVo. I've got two TiVos you'll pry from my cold, dead hands (with apologies to Kirk Douglas and the NRA.) On the other hand, I *had* an EyeTV for about a month before I sold it on eBay. It's only slightly more TiVolike than my VCR. I really think VT or whoever is responsible for this description should drop the "TiVo-like" statement and just call it a DVR. IMHO, of course.

TiVo-like? Ha. - pairof9s--2008

I think I got the point after the 2nd sentance. The real question is what is the difference and/or advantage of TiVo to EyeTV? Is this in comparison to the EyeTV USB? Or the 200 or 500?

I'm trying to make a determination on which to get and I like TiVo but its lack of HDTV capabilities is a major problem.

Tivo has recording capabilities that can adjust based on the program. (ie if the football game goes into overtime, it will continue recording all of the program, or if you like shows with richard gere it will record all the shows with richard gere for you the way you set it up. EyeTV is nifty for me for recording to computer and archiving. you can remotely schedule a program via the web. There is no cost for EyeTV aside from the Hardware cost. TiVo requires a subscription. EyeTV doesn't support HDTV yet in the US(supported I think in Europe). If you have a faster computer than I, G4 1.4 MHz you look at iTele, which allows you to use a PCI HDTV card to import and record OTA HDTV with the caveat that you have to have a fast G5 because the HDTV conversion is Software based, not hardware.

FYI - EyeTV 500 is now available in the US for ATSC and SDTV signals thereby becoming an HDTV DVR.
