If you're going to moan, it's option-command (not apple). Of course, I have an apple picture and and 'alt' on my keyboard (above the option), so I guess both are ok.

This is probably only true in TextEdit and Mail, so I don't know if "usually" is the word... not to moan or anything... ;)
