I've seen these posted as "Yamaha" and "Roland". One of the two was C3 and the other was C4. Can anyone corroborate this information?

Great app BTW.

Yes. In the DX7 family of synths, and possible going back further, Yamaha labelled the MIDI note range C-2 to G7, with Middle C, note 60, as C3.

The correct range is C-1 to G8, with Middle C as C4. Roland has always done it this way, to my knowledge. Many other manufacturers, too.

Since the DX7 was the most popular synthesizer ever in the early days of MIDI software, a lot of apps from that era had a preference about which labelling system to use and included "Yamaha" and "Roland" as cues to the user about what was going on.
