Is there a compelling reason to use this, vs. say, SubEthaEdit, which is a free OS X unix/html text editor, or xemacs? I feel like I must be missing something, but what?

I totally agree, as a longtime user of bbedit, it's much less than 180 bucks, and even this is worth that application ;-)Friday, September 24 2004 @ 03:50 PM PDT

Ok, I tried it.It installs stuff in /usr/bin without asking. That ain't very nice. At least it should go into /usr/local/bin rather than mess with system files.
God only knows what else it installed.

If SubEtha does everything you need, you can spare the 180$. No problem at all, is it?I, though I'm not a web developer, am really glad BBEdit is around. SFTP, syntax coloring/checking for a number of programming languages, now file groups, grep (!!), CVS integration, Glossary and powerful scripting abilities are the first things that come to my mind - in some projects I rarely leave BBEdit for days.
There is no replacement for it. It's worth every cent.
