I have been trying to find a fast, easy Video CD player for Mac OS X. After reading comments on the new MacVCD, which looked too controlled, there were comments saying VLC Media Player and MPlayer were better. So I downloaded and tried both.
On an old Green iBook both programs opend ok and both had a nice interface. However, VLC Media Player was easier to use, since it had the Disk Open option, so I just pick the Video CD I want to play and it goes to the right files. On MPlayer, I had to search around folders for files that would play, which was too much hassle.
VLC Media Player is the easiest one I could find that works. MacVCD may be good but the restrictions are so draconian, I don't want to bother. I highly recommend VLC Media Player.
